Statement of Commitment used at the Peace Rally, St Mary’s Church, Luton on Friday 4th May 2012, prior to the English Defence League demonstration in Luton on Saturday 5th May 2012.

 

“We, inspired by our own faith and values, express confidence in ourselves and in one another to spread the way of peace and friendship in Luton. We commit ourselves to be the eyes, ears and conscience of our communities in Luton. And therefore, offer ourselves as instruments of healing where there is pain, reconciliation where there is confrontation, calm where there is anger, sharing love and kindness where there is hatred.”

 

St.Thomas’ Mothers’ Union have invited a speaker, who works for English Heritage at Wrest Park near Silsoe, to talk to them at their next meeting. She is an experienced gardener and is working on an on-going Lottery funded 20-year restoration project there ( as shown on Breakfast TV recently ).

Corinne will be talking about the work and its difficulties, the plants and water features, but also the history of the house itself, so we know it will be very interesting. She is bringing photographs that she has taken (before and after) which she will show on a screen.

This meeting takes place in the Church Hall, Bedford Road, opposite Tesco Extra, on Thursday 7th. June at 8pm. Refreshments will be available after the talk.

Every first Sunday of the month members of St. Thomas' Church will be holding a club/creche for children of the congregation.So bring your youngsters along for a morning of supervised play and refreshments. New members of the parish most welcome.
